Editors' Choice Awards

  • Introducing the IJL Editors' Choice Awards 2018

Our long-standing Editors’ Choice Awards have recognised excellence, originality and creativity among our exhibitors for years, but what about the many retailers, Diamond Club members and visitors who make IJL great?

For IJL 2018, we were thrilled to announce the very first Editors’ Choice Awards that will spotlight the very best in our sparkling industry.

Exhibitors and visitors are invited to nominate themselves, or others, for three prestigious awards. A shortlist will then be presided over by an esteemed panel of magazine and digital editors from the UK jewellery industry, before being passed to IJL Event Manager, Sarah Kitley-Spencer and Diamond Club Manager, Katie Morris, for the final vote.

Winners were formally announced during the Live Walk presentation on during the IJL show. Find out more below.

Congratulations to the IJL 2018 Onsite Editors' Choice winners!

Le Ster Jewellery - Designer to Watch

Awarded to Le Ster Jewellery based for capturing the attention and imagination of the judging panel; the first collection, Light through the Grey, combines the graphics of Pop Art, Lichenstein and Warhol, with the dynamic explosions of fireworks, a celebration of energy and confidence, a reminder to light up the skies.

    Daisy Grice Jewellery - Innovator

The Innovator Award went to Daisy Grice, recent graduate from Birmingham School of Jewellery and one of the four Bright Young Gems winners. The ‘Twisted Tales’ collection that Daisy has designed and made for her graduate show includes a statement neckpiece produced in laser sintered nylon and adorned with sterling silver thorns. Other pieces in the collection are made in solid sterling silver with a highly polished finish and set with black diamonds. Editor’s voted this piece as the most eye-catching at Olympia this year.

    ManuSchmuck - Overall Excellence

When it came to Overall Excellence, ManuSchmuck caught the panels eye for its Simple, elegant forms and precious, matt textures; the signature of MANU-designers.

  •  Thank you to our judges!

    Laura Sutherland

Editor for Attire Accessories, Fashion Editor, County Wedding Magazines, Features Editor, Gift Focus
“Attire Accessories has been one of IJL's media partners for three years now, and every year, the design innovation and originality of the show surpasses all expectations. The qualities I'll be looking for are pieces with a real visual impact, a strong concept and exciting design processes - with the advent of laser technology and 3D printing, the future of jewellery is limitless.”

    Stacey Hailes

     Editor, Professional Jeweller
"Professional Jeweller has been working as a media partner for IJL for a very long time and it is an event we look forward to every year. I love gathering with fellow members of the jewellery trade for three days of networking and discovering new collections. For me, I'm always on the lookout for innovative designs, emerging designers and unusual gemstones. It's also a great place to spot seasonal trends."

    Ruth Faulker

     Editor, Retail Jeweller
“Retail Jeweller enjoys a strong ongoing relationship with International Jewellery London through its involvement as an official trade media partner of the show. The event brings together the very best in UK and international jewellery brands over what is always an exciting and inspiring event and I am delighted to have been asked this year to assist with judging the Editor’s Choice award as part of the show.”

  • Belinda Morris

    Editor, The Jeweller
"As editor of The Jeweller magazine I have been attending IJL for the past 10 years or more – it's a must-attend  show for me, an invaluable chance to check trends, discover unfamiliar brands and collections, catch up on industry news... and network of course. I look at jewellery with two heads on – as a communicator, but also as a consumer. I want to be excited by newness, quality and beauty... I want to go shopping!"

    David Brough

Co-founder and Editor, Jewellery Outlook, Precious Metals and Gems Editor, IJL
"IJL is a fabulous showcase for new design talent, as well as for designer brands from around the world. For talented new designers who graduated from Britain's world-recognised jewellery schools, IJL presents a great opportunity to launch one's own brand and to sound out retailers and press."

    Michael Northcott

    Michael Nortcott, Editor, Jewellery Focus

Jewellery Focus has been an official media partner with IJL since the magazine was founded 11 years ago. It is, in our view, the best UK jewellery show - the sheer variety of up-and-coming designers, established manufacturers displaying their latest innovations, and a seminar programme filled with genuinely insightful sessions make it an unmissable event for the trade. The organisers make a special effort to shine a light on those trying to break into this competitive field and we think that's a great contribution to an industry which needs a constant stream of new talent joining its ranks.

  • The Final Vote

IJL Diamond Club Manager, Katie Morris

"The Diamond Club is made up of over 500 UK and international jewellery buyers, so selecting a Diamond Club Member of the Year will be no mean feat. We welcome self and third-party nominations to discover who deserves extra recognition in 2018.
