Company NameNational Association of Jewellers

The saying ‘choose a job you love and you will never have to work a day in your life’ actually happened for JET Tutor, Mark Houghton. Mark has been involved in the retail jewellery industry for more than 38 years, and quickly developed a passion for gemmology and jewellery from the outset. This led to Mark gaining a Retail Jewellers’ Diploma in 1981, an FGA in 1983 and a DGA in 1984. His involvement in jewellery education is not only a passion but also a way of sharing his experiences with up-and-coming generations of jewellery professionals. Mark began lecturing for the Gemmological Association of Great Britain’s Gemmology Diploma courses and their Diamond Grading Course. He later became the Chairman of the North East Region GEM-A Branch in 2005. Additionally, between 1988 and 2015, Mark was a Registered Valuer and regular attendee at the Loughborough IRV Conferences. Mark says: “To all those contemplating entering our trade I would say be passionate in your products, keep asking questions attend as many trade fairs and training events as you can and a glittering future lies ahead of you.”
