  • Winner Jewellery Lover Up to 18 years

‘Heart Stars’ bracelet by Indira Buckley (10) from Horwich, Greater Manchester
I have always enjoyed drawing hearts and stars because of their shapes; and this inspired me to design a bracelet containing both.

I wanted to add some colour so I chose pretty pink stones to make the stars sparkle and a sapphire blue for the heart as this is my birthstone.

  • Winner Jewellery Lover Over 18

‘Rose Ring’ by Anayawa Nyambe from Lusaka, Zambia

My ring was inspired by my dream of having that perfect ring - a single stone in a delicate flower frame.

I love gem stones because they are strong, precious and beautiful, qualities every girl has, and this ring reminds just how special you are. Apart from taking Art in secondary school and having some sewing lessons, I am self-taught, yet  I have a strong need to express my creative energy alongside my studies in Public Health and doing my PhD in Medical Science.

  • Winner Student Designer

‘Circles’ pendant by Joanna Harris from Purley, Surrey

This pendant is inspired by the beauty of bubbles - the ones we play with as children. I imagined more and more bubbles clustered together, as on this long pendant, with the pearls representing the light reflected from these bubbles.

I studied Graphic Design at university and worked in this field for many years alongside a passion for jewellery.  I decided it was about time I used my design skills so studied on lots of courses at City Lit in London.

  • Winner Current Jewellery Designer

‘Glowing Sun’ earrings by Indika Wijayarathna from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia

It’s a great honor to win the Designer category of HSBD 2016.  My links with the UK reach back to an advanced jewellery designing course at the University of Central England and I now work professionally in Riyadh.

I have won several awards in Dubai, plus most recently the Fantasy Award at the International Pearl Design Competition in America.  My earrings were inspired by the sunlight breaking through shadows created by maple branches, recreated by the softness of freshwater pearls and the sparkle of gem stones.
