Jewellery Store Design - Thor & Wistle

Thor & Wistle has been shortlisted for Store Design and Boutique Retailer of the Year at the UK Jewellery Awards 2013. It’s easy to see why this concept space and atelier has been chosen.

Situated just off Redchurch Street, in Shoreditch, East London – Thor & Wistle is a collaborative project between Kamilla Thorsen and Rachel Entwistle of Dynasty and Rachel Entwistle Jewellery. The two designers make their creations on site in the studio and work with other UK artists to collaborate and showcase the best of emerging design talent.

Their work appeals to two very different audiences – Rachel’s upbringing in the English countryside and her experiences in Mexico infuse her designs with mystery and symbolism while Kamilla’s Scandinavian roots and background in textiles bring colour and minimalism to her work.

The pair met in December 2009 in Netil House Studios in London Fields where they shared their first studio space. They went on to collaborate on a pop-up shop on East London’s Columbia Road in 2011, before opening Thor & Wistle in the summer of 2012.

The store was designed with up-cycling in mind, utilising recycled and salvaged materials along with antiques and specimens to create an unusual and atmospheric space. Resembling a curiosity shop or museum the atelier store is an extension of their design philosophy and inspiration. It's a welcoming place for people to visit and get to know the inner workings of the brands. Described by Timeout as a "gorgeous little place" the boutique is fast establishing itself as the go to place for jewellery with a difference.

As part of the IJL 2013 Seminar Programme we'll be addressing the topic of visual merchandising, giving valuable tips and advice on how best to showcase jewellery collections to attract customers and increase sales.
