The premier jewellery event celebrates its 60th edition
This year the Show is celebrating its Diamond Jubilee. With 60 years behind it as the UK’s premier jewellery trade event, IJL 2015 offers a world-class showcase for over 530 jewellers and designers from over 38 countries around the world, a seminar roster of high profile entrepreneurs and a host of additional Diamond Jubilee surprises.
“We are celebrating 60 glorious years, but our thoughts are very much on the future of the industry. We have always been about what is new, fresh and cutting edge in this industry – trends, talent, marketing and the latest in design developments” says Sam Willoughby, Event Director. “And our 2015 Show promises to deliver all this and more – providing the perfect setting in which to conduct business”.
Over the three days of the Show, visitors are expected from over 40 countries, reflecting IJL’s international standing. “On the buying front, we have also had a 20% increase in registrations for our Diamond Club – exclusively reserved for our VIP buyers who are drawn from a diverse range of buyers from major international stores to key online retailers”, adds Sam Willoughby.
Visitors and exhibitors alike will be invited to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee in style and there will be many surprises unveiled at the show. Highlights will include a spectacular Late Night Shopping Event on Sunday 6 September, with an additional Catwalk Show featuring a unique 'Diamond Blaze' scene, exclusively curated for the anniversary. The lucky winners of the sparkling anniversary prize draw for exhibitors will also be announced at the event.
Best of British and International Talent
Designed as a luxurious environment for the very best in quality craftsmanship and design, IJL 2015 will unveil one of the best showcases for British talent. Returning high profile British designers include Alex Monroe, Andrew Geoghegan, Sarah Jordan and Shaun Leane - all launching new signature pieces and collections. They join well established manufacturers such as Domino, CW Sellors, Daisy London and Hockley Mint.
On the international side, some of the new cutting edge brands showing for the first time at IJL include Marchesa Fine Jewelry, debuting in Europe, and designer Ivanka Trump from the US, Bykovs Jewelry House from Russia, Dezire’D Jewels from India, Anita Sondore from Latvia and Julien Riad Sahyoun from Monaco. All complemented by returning companies like Endless, IBB London and Ti Sento.
For further international inspiration, there are not only the Hong Kong, South Asia, South African and Sri Lankan International Pavilions but also the European Village and the new ‘In Stile Italiano’. ‘In Stile Italiano’ is part of IJL’s first Country Market Focus, designed to highlight Italy’s dynamic jewellery industry - attracting ten exciting new companies including Bronzallure, Botta Gioielli and Cesari Diffusione di Simone Cesari, along with well-known brands such as Fope and Ponte Vecchio Gioielli.
“IJL’s offering this year very much refects how well higher-end jewellery is performing and as result a growing number of brands and designers especially, are using gold in their new collections. This is reflected in the increasing number of high end companies at the show - 80% of the new exhibitors for instance this year are in fine and designer jewellery”, comments Sam Willoughby.
In recognition of the wealth of creative talent and commercial acumen at the show, two new categories have been added to the much prized Editor’s Choice exhibitor competition this year - ‘Diamonds in Design’, to celebrate the show’s Diamond Edition, and ‘In Stile Italiano’, recognising Italian craftsmanship as part of the Italian Market Focus at IJL 2015.
New Editor’s Choice award trophies have been created and will be presented to the stars of this year’s line-up - Sarah Ho, Cesari Diffusione Di Simone Cesari, Mirka Janeckova Jewellery, Fei Liu, Dower & Hall and Andrew Geoghegan – with DDonna by Ruggero Broggian and Flora Bhattachary being highlighted as Highly Commended. The entries were judged by Claire Adler, the jewellery and luxury consultant, and Event Director Sam Willoughby.
New Bridal Innovation
Bridal Jewellery remains the largest part of the precious jewellery sales sector, with continued buoyant growth predicted. This year’s IJL offers the most comprehensive and diverse destination for buyers looking for strong collections across all price points – reflecting the move by designers and brands to expand their offering to include bridal lines.
Companies and designers to look out for include Boudici with their new Reverie Diamond range, Beverley K - new to the show and presenting a new collection of vintage-inspired bridal rings and earrings, Forevermark, which features rare, responsibly marked diamonds, and Arctic Circle, who are launching a new collection with award-winning designer Sarah Jordan.
Stubbs & Co will once again be flying the British flag for contemporary bridal design and visitors will be treated to stunning pieces from Brown & Newirth Ltd and also Domino, with their beautiful Rosabella collection – to name but a few.
Perfectly timed for the Christmas and Spring buy, the Autumn/Winter 2015 and 2016 jewellery trends will take centre stage on the newly located Catwalk. Forecast by IJL’s trend partner, Adorn Insight, the key looks to be unveiled in the thrice daily shows are Victoriana Punk, Seventies, Geo-Form, Floral Fancy and Diamond Blaze.
Maia Adams and Juliet Hutton-Squire, directors of market intelligence agency Adorn Insight, will also present these trends in their seminar Market Intelligence for Commercial Success - The SS16 Jewellery trends you need to know. In their follow-on Trend Clinic, they will also advise how retailers can best think ahead and incorporate seasonal trends into their buy for the forthcoming season.
Now in its seventh year, the ten KickStart designers are hand-selected by the IJL team and the British Jeweller's Association and include People’s Choice winner, Laura Parra of LaParra Jewels. Showing up on the Design Gallery, these designers are all tipped for the top. IJL's trend partner, the leading jewellery forecaster, Adorn Insight, will be awarding the Adorn Insight Award to one outstanding KickStarter.
Bright Young Gems
The tenth collection of Bright Young Gems will be unveiled to industry at IJL 2015. All five chosen designers have recently graduated from the UK's top colleges and universities. They were nominated by an elite panel of national fashion and jewellery editors, together with Bec Clark, Founder and Executive Chairman of Astley Clark, as the “one’s to watch”. Being selected offers these young designers an outstanding commercial platform to show their work to the industry – with many going on to become high profile established industry names.
New Industry Content and Experts
Retailers and exhibitors alike can tap into the extensive complimentary seminar programme and advice clinics with leading professionals from the jewellery and other industries such as fashion and lifestyle. Covering every aspect of retailing, merchandising, sales and marketing, this unique seminar programme runs the full three days of the show and features more than 70 high profile experts.
The keynote speakers heading up this year’s inspirational IJL Seminar programme are Laura Tenison, Founder of the mother and baby boutique global multi-channel brand JoJo Maman Bébé , Sally Heath Ecommerce Director of the successful fashion brand New Look and the leading ethical entrepreneur, Liz Earle MBE, who will be joining the Fairtrade seminar debate.
These seminars will be complemented with a jewellery industry first - the launch of the book ‘The Modern Entrepreneurs Guide to Growing a Business -Think #Digital First’ by Warren Knight, the social media guru and author. Warren has joined forces with IJL to specially adapt this information-packed book for jewellery retailers, providing a step-by-step guide to building a socially savvy business. The book will be unveiled during Warren’s seminar – ‘Think Digital First: 7 Simple Steps to a Socially Savvy Business’. Copies will be given on a ‘first come, first served’ basis to the first 50 attendees and there will also be a special ‘Meet The Author’ session, following the seminar.
To maximise the Show experience, this year for the first time an IJL Event App, sponsored by Links of London and Follie Follie is available to download. It provides a simple way of navigating the Show and keeping up with new features and event highlights including seminars. It also provides an exhibitor list and profiles and a searchable product directory.
Networking takes a big step forward at IJL2015 too with the launch of the new professional online jewellery network, Cadfolio. A jewellery industry ‘first’, this will allow show visitors to network, keep up to date with daily show news and connect with new contacts in a way not experienced before.
The Last Word - from some newcomers and established brands:
“IJL is a great platform for us to connect with our existing UK retailers and also attract new UK and international stockists. Also being a British house it’s good to sit alongside fellow designers to represent the UK and get a feel of what we collectively have to offer as a market” - Shaun Leane.
“This year IJL will coincide with the launch of not only our new Champers & Cocktails collection, but also our new luxurious website geared to entice consumers looking for a better grade of jewellery, whilst simultaneously assisting retailers to present the best in jewellery to their clientele. IJL is the premiere UK jewellery show. It is the proverbial kick-off to the season and we regard it as very important to meet up with both new and existing customers” - Ariel Tivon, Managing Director Tivon Fine Jewellery.
“We at TLKE are excited to be part of IJL 2015, as one of the most important trade shows in Europe. We will be giving buyers a sneak preview of some of our most iconic brands, ranging from Anne Klein jewellery and watch collections and the exquisite Manchesa collection debuting in Europe to Lonna & Lilly jewellery, the amazing surf brand, Quiksilver and Roxy, and Vince Camuto timepieces” – Teresa Timberlake, Director, TLKE.

“I started my company two years ago and since then I’ve created THE JUST COLLECTIONS. Now is the right time to unveil my universe to the world at IJL” - Julien Riad Sahyoun from Monaco.
“We can't wait to present our new Reverie Diamond collection at IJL for the first time. Pre-launch we've already opened 20 accounts with reputable independent retailers in Ireland, Scotland and England. We'd love to double that number here at the show and are hoping to do just that!” - Ivonna Poplanska, Creative Director UJT Ltd / Boudici London.
“Exhibiting at IJL offers an invaluable opportunity to introduce the Beverley K collection to fine retailers as we continue to expand into new markets” - Morrie Knopp, Owner of Beverley K.
“We are excited to launch Forevermark in the UK and Ireland with a group of passionate retailers. Following a successful 2014 IJL show, it was natural to again select IJL as the forum to showcase the Forevermark brand to the trade” - Lisa Levinson, Country Manager Forevermark UK and Ireland, at HRA Group.
“The importance of the wedding market should never be underestimated. Not simply for sales of engagement and wedding rings but also for the add-on purchases it can provide in terms of earrings, necklaces and bracelets to be worn on the big day and gifts for the bridal party” - Andrew Sollitt, Domino’s Sales and Marketing Director.
“Apsara will be presenting an assortment of coloured gemstones in all shapes and sizes. The centre piece of the display will be a collection of fine quality untreated rubies in one and two carat sizes. IJL is the primary exhibition in the UK for fine gems and jewellery. We have been exhibiting at IJL for 18 years and have made many useful contacts over the years, many of whom have become established clients” - Peter Grummit of Apsara Gems.
And from some prominent retailers in the industry:
“Another IJL show, it comes around so quickly and indicates that Christmas is not far away. I'm looking forward spending a couple of days at IJL 2015. I liked the new location last year with its light and airy space. For me it's a chance to keep an ear to the ground to get a feeling as to how the trade is doing, a chance to meet up with fellow retailers / suppliers and see what's new and hot to buy and sell this Christmas” - Nicholas Wylde, leading independent jeweller and goldsmith.
“I always enjoy attending IJL. It is a fabulous networking opportunity within the UK jewellery industry and also a great place to see the evolution of trends. My favourite part of the show is the KickStart stand which is full of exciting talent, which we so passionately support at Notonthehighstreet.com. Many of our existing partners show at IJL and it’s wonderful when we discover someone completely new through the show” - Diane Smith, Category Manager Jewellery, notonthehighstreet.com.
