BJA - 60Pts for 60 years

BJA DIAMOND DESIGN COMPETITION - 60pts for 60 years

The BJA staged a diamond jewellery design competition to celebrate the 60th Edition of the founding of International Jewellery London.

All UK companies who exhibited at IJL 2015 were invited to enter a piece of jewellery incorporating exactly 60 points of diamonds – one for each year the show has been in business.

The winning design and two ‘Highly Commended’ pieces received considerable PR exposure, from both the BJA and from IJL, in the run-up to and during the show.

The competition was judged by the bespoke, luxury jewellery designer, David Marshall together with Helen Dimmick of retailer Green & Benz, Justine Carmody of Stephen Webster and representatives from the organisers.

  • The Winner

    Rebecca Neill, Domino

The winner, Rebecca Neill from Domino, won with her unique bangle ‘Stella Una’ a title derived from ‘Stella’ the Latin word for planet and ‘Una’ meaning together as one.

  • Runner-Up

    Anna-Anthea Carter, Domino

The runner- up is Anna-Anthea Carter, also from Domino, with her ‘Sparkle’ celebration earrings. These signify the explosion of thoughts and creativity of designs that have emerged over the past 60 years with 60 prongs to each earring expanding out at different lengths from the centre.

  • Highly Commended

Four highly commended designs were also chosen, each of which interpreted the brief in different ways.

L-R: Kristjan Eyjolfsson, who created a brooch called ‘Kampavin’ (champagne in Icelandic) in which carved features and facets represent bubbles in a crystal flute.
Siobhan Maher of Domino whose ‘Earrings for Dancing’ were felt to be full of life and vivacity.
Dalia Daou who created an unusual candle-shaped pendant incorporating the initials IJL.
Emma Louise Darnell also of Domino whose ‘Constellation’ necklace drew its inspiration from the stars.
