The Industry's Flagship UK Jewellery Event Opens Its Doors!

International Jewellery London, the leading UK jewellery event, has opened with a sparkling array of new features, designers and manufacturers as well as a luxurious look and feel. All of which highlights the show’s position within the industry as the ultimate UK jewellery experience with an impressive range of high-end fine and quality fashion-led jewellery brands. It is organised by world class event organisers Reed Exhibitions, and is part of a unique global portfolio of jewellery events.

“IJL 2012 features over 600 exhibiting companies – an increase on last year of 5% - and 156 of these are completely new to IJL. Together with unique features and awards, this creates a large and impressive UK showcase of the best in the industry.

“The event has an even more luxurious look and feel this year, to really enhance the overall experience and create the optimum environment for viewing stunning work and doing business. IJL really makes a difference to businesses and is a key date in the diary for retailers and buyers, timed perfectly as so many leading brands choose this point to launch their new collections, both for A/W and also 2013,” says Sam Willoughby, Event Director.

Best in Design

Excellent quality design is the hallmark of IJL and this year the line up is set to impress. Featuring celebrity designers and new celebrity collaborations, stunning fine jewellery and contemporary collections, and fun and quirky designs, the show is sure to be spectacular.

Amongst the many highlights are Rachel Galley’s new Meg Mathews capsule collection, new exhibitor Dinny Hall - the well known British jewellery brand worn by celebrities such as Emma Watson and Thandie Newton, SHO Fine Jewellery with their stunning new floral collection, Deakin & Francis with their latest quirky and fun cufflinks, and Sarah Jordan celebrating her 25th anniversary with two new special collections.

The Boulevard is set to shine this year, and will be star-studded with top jewellery companies and brands, such as Fei Liu Fine Jewellery, Stuart Moore following his successful debut last year, London Road Jewellery launching its Portobello Vintage Collection and Hot Diamonds launching five new A/W collections including ‘Diamond Life’, featuring beautiful designs which promise to offer a dedicated point of sale solution for retailers. 

“The Boulevard provides a spacious and stylish centrepiece to the exhibition and is a terrific showcase for some of the UK’s most exciting jewellery brands.  We at Domino are proud to be a part of it and are looking forward to what promises to be a busy show,” says Domino’s Sales and Marketing Director, Andrew Sollitt.  Amongst other exciting new pieces, Domino will showcase the new Rosabella Collection, a must-see for anyone seeking suites of diamond jewellery.

The best international jewellery talent is also at IJL. In addition to individual companies, national pavilions, such as the new Dutch Design Pavilion, provide an opportunity to see displays from select countries.

New Talent

Leading buyers and key press always look forward to the Bright Young Gems and KickStart features at the show, as these initiatives identify a selection of the hottest new designers as they launch. The Bright Young Gems designers have been selected by a panel of leading fashion and jewellery editors and been tipped for success, whilst the KickStart designers have been hand selected by the IJL team and the British Jewellers’ Association.

Watch Trail

Watches are also a prominent feature at this year’s show so a new Watch Trail has been launched, allowing visitors to easily navigate and source the latest in watch design and manufacture. Brands this year include Rolex, Cartier, Breitling, Patek Phillipe (BQ Watches), Bering Watches (Bering Time), Junghans (Jon Vincent The Watchmaker), Hoops (AMA Agencies), STORM, and Cross, Boccia, Ice, Radley and Kahuna (Peers Hardy Group) – to name a few.

Leading market research company GfK, presenting two different seminars this year, will also focus on watches in one seminar. Account Director Jonathan Hedges said: “With the IJL show continuing to develop and expand into showcasing watches, this provides GfK with an increasing audience with which we can present the latest trends in the UK market place to. The market is seeing dynamic evolution currently via the increasing importance of internet retailers, sharp decline in volume sales and yet continued increase in average selling prices and the development of new materials. GfK will provide insight into these key trends and look towards what the future might hold for the watches industry, for both retailers and manufacturers alike.”

Metals Shine

IJL will be a celebration of metals this year. A real show highlight will be the Platinum Experience hosted by Platinum Guild International (PGI).  For the first time ever PGI are presenting an exhibition which focuses on the unique heritage of platinum. The Platinum Trail will also reveal some of the best in platinum jewellery design, streamlining the show for visitors interested in design-led platinum jewellery.

The Silver Promotion Service is sponsoring the Inspiration Theatre and four of their members will present their work on a stylish stand on the Boulevard. The International Palladium Board will be at the show for the first time to meet visitors on their own stand to talk about the strengths of the metal. A dazzling array of designer brands such as Nada G, Imogen Belfield and Alfred Terry will also showcase collections featuring gold jewellery.

VIP Retailers

IJL offers the most senior level and largest VIP programme at a UK jewellery trade event. The Diamond Club hosts the country's top jewellery buyers and industry influencers in the UK as well as internationally.

Jeremy Pragnell, Chairman of George Pragnell Ltd, is a Diamond Club member who is well placed to comment on the show: "Having visited IJL since I was a boy, my lasting memory of the show is that whilst it has obviously evolved significantly, the event has always retained a wonderful sense of glamour".

Iconic Speakers

IJL has an impressive range of industry related seminars taking place at this year’s event hosted by successful experts and gurus, providing tips and tools to maximise revenues, save costs, generate ideas to set retailers apart from their competitors.

The International Palladium Board are holding an exciting seminar featuring special guest, designer Stephen Webster, and IPB chairman, Brad Mills, to introduce palladium as the newest precious metal to be hallmarked.
The seminar will be hosted by luxury writer Claire Adler, who will also select her ‘Editor’s Choice’ at the show. This initiative identifies jewellery that excels in terms of design, quality and commercial vision, in Claire Adler’s expert opinion.

Other seminar highlights include The Retail Champion Clare Rayner, top blogger Callum Watt, PureJewel’s Brand Manager Jayant Raniga with an industry panel debating 'Brand or Retailer?', a Thomson Reuters expert discussing the gold survey and forecast for 2013, the IJL Great Debate and Martin Rapaport’s influential diamond industry report.

On Trend

IJL provides the ideal one stop shop to keep visitors ahead of the latest jewellery and retailing trends – from design and product trends, to new business ideas and market analysis.

Following their popular seminar last year, Stylesight will this year provide a presentation on the overarching trends influencing design for the A/W 2013 season, with a focus on the design directives for the jewellery and accessories market. This will take place in the Inspiration Theatre, which will focus on seminars involving trends, panel debates and leading keynote speakers.

IJL Runway

Back with a new format and in a purpose built area at the end of the Boulevard; leading and emerging jewellery designers and manufacturers will be showcasing their latest collections. Two shows are scheduled for each day, running for 15 minutes, providing you with a dynamic display of designer jewellery.

There are plenty of places around the show to network and relax, including the luxurious setting of the newly designed Boulevard Bar, IJL’s new networking space on the forecourt, the ‘Garden Café’, the Design Gallery Bar and numerous ‘rest’ areas for visitors to re-charge their batteries.  IJL is a key meeting place for the jewellery industry and everything is designed to allow visitors to enjoy the 2012 show in style.
